BSc., ND
Naturopathic Doctor
Career Overview
Elly obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Brock University in 1997,
and went on to complete the 4 year, full-time program in naturopathic medicine
from the only accredited naturopathic college in Canada, the Canadian College
of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), in 2002.
At CCNM, Elly learned conventional and alternative diagnostics, basic medical
sciences, and natural approaches to addressing body-mind illness. She completed
1500 hours of supervised clinical internship treating patients. Graduates
must then pass rigorous provincial and international examinations to achieve
a license to practice naturopathic medicine. Elly is presently licensed and
a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND). In 2009
she completed post-graduate certification courses with the OAND in Environmental
Medicine and Mind-Body Medicine.
Her primary goal as a Naturopathic Doctor is to address and treat the cause
of illness rather than symptom suppression or disease management. Each
patient is seen as a whole person as their physical, mental, and emotional
dimensions are taken into account when developing a treatment plan. Focusing
on prevention and using natural substances and treatments, Elly works with
her patients to support and stimulate the body's innate ability to heal itself.
Treatments used include Clinical Nutrition, Botanical Medicine, Stress
management and lifestyle counselling. Elly collaborates with her patients
on an individualized treatment plan that focuses on diet and lifestyle counselling
to optimize health naturally. She may also prescribe evidence-based
nutritional supplements and herbal medicines.
Naturopathic medicine covers all aspects of family health from prenatal to
geriatric care. Virtually all conditions can benefit from naturopathic
care, including chronic illness, acute conditions, and health maintenance
and disease prevention. Elly has successfully treated patients with
a variety of health concerns, including all areas of women's health, pediatrics,
stress management, thyroid disorders and fatigue, pain and inflammation, anxiety
and depression, digestive system imbalances, cardiovascular health, sleep
difficulties, allergies and recurrent infections. She has comprehensive
naturopathic patient programs for optimizing fertility, enhancing wellness
in pregnancy, attention deficit and autism spectrum disorders, addiction and
smoking cessation, healthy body composition and medical detoxification.
Naturopathic appointments are covered by most private health insurance plans.
